Wanting More vs. Being Ungrateful!!!

Okay okay okay...this is officially my first blog and I think it is something that I think many people will be able to relate to.

"You should just be grateful that...(fill in the blank)!!" Man if I had dollar for every time that I have heard people make that statement!!!  This is the problem that I have with the mindsets of many individuals in this society.  The bottom line is that when you expect more you get more and just because someone desires to get more from their life or in their profession does not mean that they are ungrateful for what they do have.  Its so amazing to me the amount of complacency that exists amongst us and how we tend to condemn people that want more in life.  Everybody is born with this thing called "potential," and the people that want more from their potential and refuse to settle for just "existing" in their current form are the people that can relate to what I am saying.

To bring what I am trying to get across to life I will provide you an example....Okay we all remember in our younger days when we were going on a road trip (spring break or bike week or something like that) and we would find the cheapest hotel possible and pack as many people in the room as possible just to save a dollar.  Well I think back to those days and I compare them to the first time I stayed in a 5 star hotel!! Im talking valet parking, champagne waiting in the room when you get there, room service, flat screen TV's, spa services, indoor pools and jacuzzis, nice workout facility, glass see through showers...you get my drift!! It's in those moments when you realize that now when you go somewhere you EXPECT to live a certain way because you have been exposed to what the "potential," can be!!  You see it wasn't that we weren't grateful for the good times in the 2 START hotels, but once you have been exposed to a 5 STAR experience you desire and want more of those types of experiences.  Now all of a sudden you start to wonder what the suites look like and then what the penthouse suite experience might be like and bc you see the possibilities and the potential you work and strive to make those things happen!!!

The othere side of this story is how the people around you that don't quite see that POTENTIAL that you see begin to judge you because your vision is bigger than theirs at that junction in time.  All of a sudden you think you are "better," than other people or you become "bourgeoisie," or "uppity" Instead of being "grateful" for where you are you are looked at negatively for striving for the next level.

I write this blog to encourage all of the people that may feel like they need to play small or just be "grateful."  What you need to know is that you playing small dosen't benefit anybody, not even the people that judge you.  You see by being willing to do what it takes to step out of that pit of mediocrity and consitently climb the notches of that potential that you were blessed with, indirectly sets an example and an EXPECTATION to others that if you can do it they can too.  Granted you may create some haters while on your journey, and you may even lose some friends on the way, but what you must know is that the people that you "lose" along the way are just the ones that chose not to keep up!!  By no way am I saying to not be humble in your journey towards to success b/c humility will keep you grounded, but what I am saying is that you should be confident in striving to be better than average.  You should be applauded for wanting 5 STARTS and not condemned for not settling for 2!

If you are at a point in life where your ambition is starving and you are just hungry for more, but you are afraid to take that next step b/c of fear that you may leave some people behind, or you may be judged and considered "ungrateful," I say to you FEED that ambition, but make sure you make enough to offer the ones around you a plate, but if they CHOOSE not to eat then let them STARVE!
